District 9 Basketball:
Wintry weather wrecked Thursday’s District 9 sports schedule.
Tip-off tournaments for DuBois, Brockway, Brookville, and Clearfield basketball teams had to be postponed. Most games will be made up today or through the weekend.
College Basketball:
Both the Penn State DuBois men and women’s basketball teams are scheduled to play at Penn State Mont Alto this evening
PIAA Football Championships
CLASS 1A
District 9 champ Port Allegany fell victim to a quick-strike Bishop Guilfoyle offense Thursday, and the Gators came up short, 41-22 in the state championship game. Port Allegany quarterback Aiden Bliss ran the ball for 250 yards and three touchdowns. Bliss finished his high school football career with 5,067 rushing yards, only the fourth player in D9 history go over the 5,000-yard mark.
CLASS 2A
Today, D9 Champ Central Clarion, with a record of 14-0, will be facing Troy in the state title game. Kickoff is scheduled for 1pm this afternoon in Mechanicsburg.
College Football:
The 11-1 Penn State Nittany Lions will play Oregon for the Big 10 championship, Saturday at 8pm, in Indianapolis.
Pittsburgh Steelers:
The 9-and-3 Pittsburgh Steelers host Cleveland this Sunday. The Steelers and Browns will kick it off at 1pm.
Pittsburgh Penguins:
The Pittsburgh Penguins have a nice little four-game win stretch rolling, and they are in the Big Apple tonight to take on the Rangers.
