PIAA Football Playoffs
Following a pair of convincing wins last Friday night, the two District 9 football teams still alive in the PIAA playoffs will play for the state championship this week:
CLASS 1A
D9 champ Port Allegany beat WPIAL champ Fort Cherry, 46-8. Gators quarterback Aiden Bliss ran for 300 yards and five touchdowns, as Port Allegany earned a chance to compete for the state championship for the first time. Thursday afternoon at 1, the 14-0 Gators will take on Bishop Guilfoyle at Cumberland Valley in Mechanicsburg.
CLASS 2A
D9 Champ Central Clarion was a 55-0 winner over WPIAL champs, South Park. Wildcats quarterback Jase Ferguson had another big day … 171 rushing yards and seven touchdowns, plus 160 yards passing. Central Clarion is now 14-0, and will be facing Troy in the state title game Friday afternoon at 1 in Mechanicsburg.
College Football:
Penn State 44, Maryland 7 … the 11-1 Nittany Lions will play Oregon for the Big 10 championship.
Boston College 34, Pittsburgh 23
Pittsburgh Steelers:
The Pittsburgh Steelers are 9-and-3 as they outscored division foe Cincinnati on Sunday, 44-38. The Steelers secured their lead atop the AFC North Division.
Pittsburgh Penguins:
The Pittsburgh Penguins have won three straight games. The latest was a 6-2 extinguishing of the Calgary Flames in Pittsburgh Saturday.
Tuesday, the Pens host the Florida Panthers. Tune in for the opening faceoff at 7pm, and you can catch the Pens-Panthers pregame show at 6:30 tomorrow evening … on Connect FM and Sunny 106.

The next game for Penn State DuBois men is Tuesday at home against Bryant and Stratton
