UNDATED – The Pennsylvania Attorney General is warning you about an uptick in phone call scams.
These scammers will call you disguised as your local county sheriff’s office claiming they have a warrant for your arrest for missing jury duty or a court hearing. They will then demand payment to avoid arrest.
Officials say legitimate law enforcement agencies will never demand payment over the phone, especially through any cryptocurrency or gift cards.
If you receive one of these calls, hang up immediately and verify the information with your local police department.
