DUBOIS – DuBois Mayor Barry Abbot has been asked to step down during Wednesday night’s City Council meeting.
During the public comments portion of the meeting, Shawn Lesky, who says he pays taxes in the city but does not live there, referenced a consolidation meeting last year where he said Abbot disagreed with then Mayor Pat Reasinger after Reasinger predicted former City Manager John “Herm” Suplizio would be found guilty in his federal corruption case.
Lesky argued that Abbott’s position showed poor leadership and urged him to resign.
“I feel that as the spokesman of this council, even though you have no superpowers beyond being one-seventh of the elected body, you are the mayor, you have the gavel. Your leadership, given the fact that you’ve stood behind the accused who’s taken millions of dollars from this city, I think that you should step down,” stated Lesky
Several council members came to Abbott’s defense following the public comments, while also saying legal counsel had advised them not to discuss the Suplizio case until sentencing is complete.
