Samuel M. Crossley, III, 81, of Sprankle Mills, left this world to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, August 2, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Sam was born on December 15, 1944, in Marysville, PA, son of the late Dorothy (Pierce) and Samuel M. Crossley, II.
He grew up on the family farm, where he developed a strong work ethic and a deep love for his family. After graduating high school, he earned his master’s degree from the Delaware Valley College where he pursued a career in agriculture. He went on to become a Penn State Cooperative Extension Agent for forty years. After retiring, Sam went into his true passion of ministry and was the pastor at Calvary Baptist Church in Coudersport, Coudersport Alliance Church, and the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Punxsutawney, PA.
A loving husband to Jane (Williams) Crossley for sixty years, Sam was a pillar of strength and support for his family. Together they raised three children; Samuel Luke Crossley (Pam Dawson), Louise C. Reely (Richard), and Andrew Jacob Crossley (Brielle Disque).
He was a devoted father and was always there to offer guidance, love, and a hearty laugh. He cherished family gatherings, and his presence always brought warmth and joy to those around him. Sam’s two favorite hymns, “In the Garden” and “I’ll Fly Away”, also reflect his devoted life.
Sam had many passions in life, including hunting, fishing, writing devotionals, and spending time with his family which included nine grandchildren; Reneé Johnson, Caleb Reely(Kali Landis), Emerald Reely, Breana Courtney, Josh Courtney, Trevor Crossley, Landon Crossley, Margaret Crossley, and Bella Sheets-Crossley; and four great grandchildren; Julian Reely, Jeryian Reely, Jaylee Reely, and Finnegan Reely. He is also survived by a sister Peggy Smith of Marysville, PA, as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will miss him dearly.
Friends will be received from 1 to 3 p.m., Friday, August 7, 2026, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.
A funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation beginning at 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Punxsutawney.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly request donations be made, in memory of Sam, to the Oliver Township Volunteer Fire Company, 184 Bodenhorn Road, Coolspring, PA 15730.
