Chester A. “Bummer” Garstka
1951-2026
Chester A. “Bummer” Garstka, age 75 of DuBois, PA died Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital.
Born on May 3, 1951 in Youngstown, OH, he was the son of the late Chester W. And Eleanor (Bobonick) Garstka.
Chet was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service to our country.
On September 11, 1976 he married his wife of 49 years, Mary M. (Meeker) Garstka. She survives.
Chet retired from the Federal Aviation Administration as an electronics technician after over 30 years of service.
He was an avid woodworker and home improvement specialist. Many of his treasures and creations can be found throughout his home.
Along with his wife, Chet is survived by his children; Patricia Geddings and husband Billy of Lincolnton, NC, Mathew Garstka of Clearfield, PA, Tim Garstka and wife Melissa, and Kattie Garstka and wife Julie, both of DuBois, PA, nine grandchildren; Marnie, Noah, Zoe, Maddie, Emma, Mykah, Mikayla, Tyler, and Rowan, siblings; Colleen Bueno and husband Gary, Tom Garstka and wife Nora, and Eleanor Haluska and husband David.
Chet was preceded in death by one brother, William Garstka.
A private family service will be held from the chapel at Morningside Cemetery. Full military honors with be accorded by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard from the cemetery.
