Patti Jean “PJ” Manners, 82, of Punxsutawney, passed away at home following a valiant fight with Ovarian Cancer on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.
She was born in Punxsutawney on December 13, 1943, and was the daughter of the late Clyde Irvin Haag and Dorothy (Bonner) Haag.
“PJ” was a 1961 graduate of Punxsutawney Area High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from IUP.
On her birthday in 1975, she married Herbert Carl Manners. Together they enjoyed forty-six years of marriage and built a wonderful life together. He owned and operated Manners Contracting, she was the bookkeeper and managed day-to-day operations as his partner. Herb preceded her in death on December 7, 2021.
Her life started with humble beginnings and shaped the person she became, as a kid she loved coffee soup and potatoes. She attended a two-room schoolhouse with a pot belly stove located near Johnsonburg. She remained humble and cherished the little things throughout her life.
Patti was loving, generous and kind. Her motto was to encourage and support the church, charitable organizations and many individuals quietly without any recognition or attention drawn to herself.
She was an avid reader, especially Bible prophecy. She was a member of Steffy Chapel.
After the loss of her husband, she found companionship with Robert Black, who brought joy, comfort and laughter back into her life.
They enjoyed camping at the Allegheny River and spending time together. She delighted in her flower gardens and tried to find unusual perennials.
In addition to Robert, she is survived by one brother, Terry C. (Jeanne) Haag of Rossiter; one niece, Cammi (Josh) Kunselman of Punxsutawney; great niece, Maisie Eberhart and fiancé Easton Gula; great nephews, Brylan and Jameson Kunselman; sister in-law, Marion (George) Meckley of Virginia; brother in-laws, Henry (Tina) Manners of Punxsutawney and Steven “Gus” (Dianna) Manners of Brookville and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Herb, a beloved nephew, Cody Haag; a sister in-law, Margaret “Peg” Manners, brother in-laws John Manners and Ronald Manners.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no visitation. Arrangements entrusted to Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
Memorial donations may be made in Patti’s memory to Just US for the Animals or Steffy Chapel Missions.
