Marie M. Schreckengost
1939-2026

Marie M. Schreckengost, 87, of Punxsutawney passed away May 24, 2026 at Mulberry Healthcare and Rehabilitation Services.

She was born on April 1, 1939, a daughter of the late Frank Molnar and Anna (Hritz) Molnar.

Marie was a graduate of the Saints Cosmas and Damian Catholic School in Punxsutawney.

On September 1, 1967 she married her sweetheart, Eugene Schreckengost, who survives. They enjoyed nearly 59 years of marriage together.

Marie devoted much of her life to caring for her home.

Mrs. Schreckengost attended Saints Cosmas and Damian Roman Catholic Church.

She enjoyed going on bike rides and taking long walks. She especially loved camping with her husband, and traveling with him. Some of their favorite trips were to Martha’s Vineyard and to Maine.

Marie was happiest in life’s simple moments, spending time with Gene, enjoying the outdoors, and making memories together. She will be remembered for her gentle nature and the quiet kindness she showed to those around her.

Marie is survived by husband; Gene, sister; Lillian Sulick of Sharon, and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Frank and Anna Molnar, brother; Francis Molnar, and sister; Dolores Gomola.

In accordance with her wishes, arrangements are private and entrusted to the Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

Interment will take place at Horatio Cemetery.

A mass will be celebrated for Mrs. Schreckengost at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marie’s memory to a charity of the donor's choice.
