BROOKVILLE – In a town where everybody knows your name, “The Heart of Brookville” beats through the people and organizations at the center of what keeps the community strong.
This year, Ace Hardware won Large Business of the year for their role in the community. North Fork Veterinary Clinic won Small Business of the year as they have brought compassion and big city services to Brookville, and the Jefferson County Area Agency on Aging won the President’s Cup for their quiet impact.
The Dr. Walter Dick Memorial Award, which honors a single person who has gone out of their way to improve Brookville, was won by Sarah Gallagher, a Brookville Council member who spends most of her time helping the community. Whether it be through the Ladies Auxiliary, Civic Club, Brookville Borough Festival or one of the many other organizations she helps.
“It’s kind of surreal,” explained Gallagher. “I mean, I don’t do any of this for recognition, I just do it for the community, so to have people recognize that really does mean a lot to me.“
With a population less than 4,000 the Brookville Chamber hosted 12 ribbon cuttings in 2025, and three so far in 2026.
