DUBOIS – If you saw a large increase in your water bills, officials say part of the issue was on their end.
During last night’s DuBois City Council meeting, Interim Manager Ben Kafferlin stated that the previous billing system rounded water usage down until it hit 1,000 gallons.
That system was changed to a fixed monthly structure similar to other communities, which may make your bill look higher.
The city is now looking at fixes that could lower your water bill.
“We are currently working with our utility billing provider in order to do actual billing.” explained Kafferlin. “So rather than rounding it down to zero, zero, zero, zero, and then jumping to 1,000, or the way it is right now, which is we’re billing you 1,000, 1,000, 1,000, 1,000 every month, instead you’ll actually get billed for what you use.”
You will likely not see any changes on this until April at the earliest.
Kafferlin also said you may notice changes listed as “debt service”, saying that you were already paying those fees before, they’re just more transparent now on where your payments are going.
