Legislation to Rename Small Town Post Office

MAHAFFEY – A Mahaffey post office could soon be renamed to honor a veteran’s legacy.

Legislation introduced by U.S. Representative Glenn “GT” Thompson would rename the Mahaffey Post Office for Marine Corps veteran and longtime mail carrier Robert Allen Bishop Sr..

Bishop served six years in the marines before returning home to Mahaffey, where he spent 36 years delivering mail and earning a Million Mile Award, while also volunteering as a firefighter and EMT.

After passing away in 2023, with this initiative aiming to recognize a lifetime of quiet service to the community.
