Winter Storm Expected for Holiday Weekend

UNDATED – A winter storm is expected to sweep across the area this holiday weekend, and you are reminded to practice safe winter driving habits.

As Operation Safe Holiday continues statewide, PennDOT officials say that slick roads, poor visibility, and heavy snow make seat belts, sober driving, and distraction-free travel more critical than ever.

To help avoid potential crashes, you are urged to practice safe driving habits.

“We want to remind everybody, if you are in a snow event, if you see snow covered roadways, ice covered roadways, increase your following distance,“ explained PennDOT Safety Press Officer Steve Harmic. “Leave a lot more space between you and the car in front of you. Reduce your speed. Crashes are much easier to avoid if you’re traveling at a reasonable rate of speed.”

When traveling this holiday season, make sure to pack emergency supplies and check 511PA for road conditions.
