DUBOIS – Discussions and debates continue as the DuBois/Sandy Township Joint Board try to tackle the 2026 budget.
A proposed garbage collection overhaul was dropped after reviews showed steep cost increases. Looking into the garbage fund revealed some extra revenue unaccounted for, dropping the previous $950,000 dollar deficit to $400,000 dollars.
Lawmakers still deliberated the water and sewer funds with proposed rates having a 10 percent increase, sparking heated debates over finances and affordability.
“Right now, they’re haggling over what’s more important, providing these services or maintaining taxes the way they are,” explained Manager Ben Kafferlin.
After heated discussion, a decision was made to split the municipalities future timber sale revenue, half to the water fund, and the other half to the general fund, despite pushback.
With tax increases or service cuts on the table, the discussion will continue next Wednesday at the city building.
