Consolidation Countdown: The Beginning

SHARE NOW

DUBOIS – The Consolidation of the City of DuBois and Sandy Township is less than a year away, as we approach that deadline we are having our Consolidation Countdown, giving you all of the information you need to know.

This month we looked at the history of Consolidation and how we got to where we are today.

We spoke with Sandy Township Supervisor Dick Whitaker, who has been a part of Consolidation for many years, on the three failed attempts in 1989, 1995, and 2002

“I just couldn’t wrap my arms around why we wouldn’t get together,“ explained Whitaker. “We share the same ball fields, we share the same schools, we go to the same churches, why we wouldn’t get together and cooperate in a greater matter and organize. I think we’re stronger the larger we are.”

He also stated how consolidation will save money on equipment and maintenance expenses, and without Consolidation, both municipalities would be bankrupt within five years.

In 2021 Consolidation was approved by voters in both DuBois and Sandy Township, with more voters in DuBois agreeing than in Sandy Township. The full consolidation will go into effect on January 5th 2026.
