TREASURE LAKE – A donation drive for Hurricane Helene victims is currently taking place in Treasure Lake.

The donation’s organizer Katlyn Johnson says that you can help by bringing non-perishable items to a trailer at the Treasure Lake one stop convenience store.

“I was born and raised there, and grew up about 10 minutes where this really hit down there in Chimney Rock, and my husband, he also lost a few family members as a result of this storm,“ explained Johnson. “And then I started seeing everybody kind of like scurry around. The stores didn’t really have anything, they couldn’t get supplies, no stores were taking cards, it was only cash, their systems were down because of no power, no WI-FI, pretty much bare bones,, survival necessities right now. And I was like you know what, we don’t have a shortage of things here, I can do something.”

She urges you to bring non-perishable items and loads of winter gear for those braving the elements in Western North Carolina.

Until Sunday you can bring your items to the tractor-trailer from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm. Monetary donations will also be accepted by the Treasure Lake POA Office.

After the drive is over, the donations will be taken to the same Samaritan’s Purse group that our drive at Priority Media went towards.
