Supporting Veterans with Chili

DUBOIS – The Clearfield-Jefferson County Suicide Prevention Team hosted their third annual Chili Cookoff over the weekend, in an effort to raise awareness and support our local veterans.

From 1pm-3pm Sunday afternoon, eight pots of chili were put to the test showcasing a variety of flavors and spices.

We spoke to Sheree Guelich with the Clearfield-Jefferson County Suicide Prevention Team, who said the initiative gives back to our veterans.

“We do it every year just to raise money,“ explained Gueluch. “We donate the money to usually two organizations. Usually they’re for housing for veterans, we have one for service animals for veterans, we have a food bank this year. Really anything that can help that community in anyway that we can. The cooks are from all various walks of life, my husband happens to be here, I kind of conned him into that one.”

After judging was completed, Scott Rendos placed 3rd, Andrew Guelich placed 2nd, and Kim Whitesell was granted first place.

Geulich also says that if you or anyone you know is facing mental health complications to not be afraid to reach out to proper mental health facilities, friends, family, or anyone who can give a helping hand.
