DUBOIS – Law enforcement agencies across the state are teaming up to fight back against impaired driving, especially as Halloween draws near.
Starting this Saturday, a number of measures will be put in place to crack down on DUIs, including sobriety checkpoints and DUI patrols.
The Sandy Township Police Department will also spearhead a new county-wide DUI prevention program dubbed “Operation Ghoul Busters”.
We spoke to Maggie Nunley, a regional program administrator from the Pennsylvania DUI Association, who said that everyone should be aware of possible impaired driving.
“There’s all this huge enforcement for The 4th of July, Thanksgiving, and St. Patrick’s Day, but we kind of overlook the public outreach for Halloween,” explained Nunley. “Because it is more focused on safety for pedestrians and safety for children, which is all extremely important, but imagine if you have impaired drivers out there that are now in the mix with children, pedestrians, and stuff like that.”
She also said that if you are or know anyone going to a Halloween party or anywhere that alcohol is involved to not drive and have someone sober handle the roadways.
