Emporium, PA – A former Reynoldsville man who had been an officer with the Emporium Borough Police has been charged with child pornography crimes.

The investigation started in October 2020 when child pornography images on a chatroom were traced back to 56-year-old Volker Kiefer.

Kiefer had been working as a Emporium Borough Police Officer as a police dog handler for K9 Novak. He is no longer employed there.

Kiefer told investigators that he had accidentally opened the image. However, as the investigation continued, Kiefer admitted to police that he had viewed child pornography multiple times in the past year and had some images saved on his ipad.

He is being held in the Cameron County Jail on $250,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is set for March 25.
