DuBois, PA – Governor Tom Wolf ordered the commonwealth flag on all commonwealth facilities, public buildings and grounds in Clearfield and Jefferson Counties to fly at half-staff immediately in honor of Trooper Monty Mitchell, the 45-year-old State Police Trooper from the DuBois barracks who died of a medical emergency while on duty on Monday.
“The sudden passing of Trooper Mitchell is felt by not only his loved ones, but also his fellow members of the Pennsylvania State Police and the community he served,” said Governor Wolf. “Frances and I offer our heartfelt condolences to Trooper Mitchell’s family and join all Pennsylvanians in mourning his loss.“
The commonwealth flag has flown at half-staff since Wednesday, March 11, 2020, in honor of the victims of the COVID-19 pandemic and should continue to fly at half-staff until further notice. The United States flag is to remain at full staff.
All Pennsylvanians are invited to participate in this tribute.
DuBois, PA – With a heavy heart, Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Colonel Robert Evanchick announced that a Pennsylvania State Trooper died after suffering a medical emergency while on duty.
On February 8, 2021, at approximately 2100 hours, Trooper Monty R. Mitchell returned to station after advising that he was not feeling well. While backing a marked unit into its stall, Trooper Mitchell suffered a medical episode.
Station personnel attempted life-saving measures and called 911 but attempts to revive Trooper Mitchell were unsuccessful. He was pronounced deceased at Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital at 10:00 PM.
“Our department today feels the heartache of the sudden loss of a colleague and friend,” said Colonel Evanchick. “We ask Pennsylvanians to keep Trooper Mitchell and his loved ones in their thoughts during this difficult time.”
Trooper Mitchell enlisted in the Pennsylvania State Police in November 2007. In addition to Troop C, DuBois, he had also been assigned to Troop G, Huntingdon and Troop C, Ridgway during his career with the department.
A graduate of the 126th cadet class, Trooper Mitchell was 45 years old.
