Pennsylvania – It happens to millions of us… overspending for holiday gifts and ending up in financial trouble.

So how can you spend less during the holidays?

Follow Santa’s example. Make a list and check it twice. Know how many people you want to buy gifts for and how much money you can spend on each one.

Start shopping early. The sooner you start, the more time you’ll have to find good deals. You’ll also feel less pressured to buy something that isn’t the perfect gift for someone.

Although shopping online can save you some money sometimes, it’s also an easy way to overspend. By shopping in an actual brick-and-mortar store, you can see how many items you’re physically putting in your cart. You can also check out the quality of items in person before buying them.

And remember, a small thoughtful gift, homemade item like baked goods, or even a heartfelt note can be a much better gift than something big and flashy.
