Harrisburg, PA – Many places will be closed today for Thanksgiving. Although private stores and businesses can stay open if they want, government buildings must be closed to observe Thanksgiving.

USA Today has a list of nationwide chains and whether they will or will not be open on Thanksgiving. Be aware that some store hours may vary by location, so please call your local store if you need to check.

The U.S. Postal Service won’t deliver mail tomorrow, and all government buildings, including driver’s license centers and liquor stores will be closed.

Although not required to by the government, most schools and banks will also be closed.

All schools in our area will have the day off on Thanksgiving itself, and most will also take the day off for this Friday and upcoming Monday.

There will be no trash pickup, so check with your particular trash company to see when your pickup has been rescheduled.

However, other people don’t get to take Thanksgiving off to spend with their families. Police officers, firefighters, military members, EMTs, doctors, nurses, and other public servants will still be hard at work, protecting us and keeping us safe. If you see one of these people during your holiday, please thank them for the good work they do year-round.
