Pottsgrove, PA – The Pennsylvania teenager who won $3 million in a video game competition recently had police show up to his home as part of a prank known as “swatting.”
16-year-old Kyle Giersdorf, who was the first Fortnite World Cup solo champion, was livestreaming on Saturday when armed police came to his house in Montgomery County in Eastern PA.
Swatting is when police are falsely called to someone’s house.
In this case, someone claiming to be Giersdorf called officers saying that he had just killed his father. Police surrounded the home until they were able to figure it out.
They believe the hoax call came in from Europe.
“Swatting” has led to deaths in the past. A fake 911 call led to a Kansas man being killed two years ago. That caller was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
