DuBois, PA – The DuBois Area School District has decided to waive the $50 student activity participation fee for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year.
Superintendent Wendy Benton said the fee was originally implemented by the board for the 2014-2015 school year as a one-time revenue boost.
It brought in about $30,000 each year since then, but the school board decided to reevaluate whether it was worth it.
The fee used to be paid by students for participating in things like athletics, band, choir, and theater.
Although DuBois had helped with the fee in the past for families that said they couldn’t pay, board members said they were concerned that students were still opting out of extracurricular activities because of the fee.
