Hamlin Township, PA – A two vehicle crash in Hamlin Township left four dead and another seriously injured April 27.

Michael Clawson, 36 of Mount Jewett, was traveling in the left passing lane on Route 219 South near Town Line Road when the other vehicle, driven by Ashley Smith, age 30 of Pittsburgh, which had been traveling on Route 219 North, crossed over the double yellow line.

Both drivers attempted to avoid hitting each other but turned in the same direction; causing the collision.

Smith was declared dead at the scene, as was her three passengers: 31-year-old Teonna Herring, as well as a 12-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl, all of Pittsburgh.

Clawson sustained serious injuries and was life flighted to UPMC Hamot.

Toxicology reports later showed that Smith had been under the influence of a combination of alcohol and drugs at the time of the crash.
