Winslow Township, PA – A Reynoldsville man was scammed out of $300 by someone claiming he was approved for a loan.
The 28-year-old man got a text message on May 14 from someone who said the victim was approved for a $10,000 loan through One Main Financial in Louisville, Kentucky.
They then requested $300. After the man sent the scammer $300 on a Google Play card, the scammer then requested another $1,100.
That’s when the victim requested his money be reimbursed, but it was never sent back. The investigation is ongoing.
Always be suspicious if someone calls from a phone number you don’t recognize.
Legitimate companies will never ask you to send them a prepaid card or gift cards for payment.
Before you make any payment to a company you’ve never used before, make sure you research them.
Search for the company’s name online, along with the word “scam” to see if other people have had problems with them before.
You can also call your local police if you’re unsure if something is a scam or if it seems fishy or too good to be true.
