Pennsylvania – We’re heading into wedding season, and the costs of being a guest can add up quickly. How to you say “I don’t” want to attend and stay friends with the bride and groom?
It’s expensive it is to plan a wedding, but what about how much it costs to go to one?
Bankrate’s Kelly Anne Smith says nearly one in five Americans declined an invitation because they can’t afford to attend. But she says, even if you can’t be there, you should send a gift. “Even giving cash or writing a check is no longer taboo, so that’s one option for giving a gift.”
You have a few months after the wedding to give it. But that still isn’t a guarantee of no hurt feelings. “30 percent of those who turn down an invite say it negatively affected their relationship with the couple.”
