Clearfield County, PA – Students have been busy painting the plows that you’ll see on the roadways this winter, and now PennDOT needs your help deciding which plow will be named as “Fan Favorite.”
You can vote in the Paint the Plow contest by liking your favorite painting in the contest photo album on the PennDOT Facebook page until this Friday, Nov. 2 at noon.

The theme this year for the plow paintings was “Know Before You Go,” the slogan for the 511PA program that allows you to look up road conditions online before you even leave the house. This is especially helpful in the winter, and you can even track where state-owned plows are.
Marla Fannin, safety press officer for PennDOT’s District 2.
Although there are 16 high schools participating throughout the entire PennDOT District 2, the local ones are DuBois, DuBois Central Catholic, Clearfield, and Harmony.

This is the third year District 2 has held the competition. This time all nine counties in the district are participating. The 16 participating high schools are DuBois, DuBois Central, Harmony, and Clearfield in Clearfield County, Elk County Catholic in Elk County, Smethport in McKean County, Galeton, Coudersport, and Austin in Potter County, Central Mountain in Clinton County, Bellefonte, St Joseph’s Academy, and Penns Valley in Centre County, Mifflin in Mifflin County, and Juniata and East Juniata in Juniata County. You can search for your school’s county and vote for your favorite plow at Paint the Plow photos.
Most of the plows will actually be put to use near the schools where they were painted, so don’t be surprised if you see one on the road this winter!
In addition to the Fan Favorite which is judged via Facebook voting, PennDOT also has a panel of judges who will also be choosing a winner. The winning schools get bragging rights and get to come to a special press conference to show off their artwork.

Plows are being painted across the state. Jeff Tech in Reynoldsville is also painting a plow, although they’re competing in District 10.
