Punxsutawney, PA – A Jefferson County man who allegedly kicked and punched a 70-year-old woman was in court earlier this week.

33-year-old Bernard Gasker Jr. of Punxsutawney is accused of kicking the woman in the leg and punching her in the head on Sept. 25. There are no details on the reasoning behind the assault.

The victim’s husband took her to the hospital for treatment that night. Police say that the woman was bleeding because she suffers from hemophilia, which means it’s difficult for her to stop bleeding if she is cut. The woman told police that Gasker was aware that she is a hemophiliac and that he actually has the same condition himself.

Gasker waived his preliminary hearing on Tuesday. He faces felony charges of aggravated assault, plus misdemeanors for simple assault and recklessly endangering another person. He was recently released on $25,000 bail. There’s no word yet on when he will be sentenced.
