Brookville, PA – In conjunction with Fire Prevention Week, grant funding totaling over $17,000 has been awarded to four rural fire companies in Jefferson and Indiana Counties. The Volunteer fire organizations that received the grants are the Glenn Campbell Volunteer Fire Department, Marion Center Volunteer Fire Department, Oliver township Volunteer Fire Department, and Plumville District Volunteer Fire Department.

The funds are to be used for training and equipment purchases directly related to fighting brush and forest fires.

The grant program, appropriated through the DCNR and paid through  federal grants from the US Department of Agriculture Forest Service has awarded more than $12.5 million since it began in 1982.
