Falls Creek, PA – A Falls Creek woman lost $650 to a scam recently on Facebook.
The unnamed 68-year-old woman had been talking to a Facebook profile with the name Linda Foster, who claimed to be connected to a federal assistance program in Washington DC.
The woman sent the scammer seven iTunes gift cards, six of them for $100 and one for $50.
She likely will not be able to get her money back.
If someone you don’t know asks you for money or personal information, it’s probably a scam. You should be especially suspicious if it sounds too good to be true (such as paying a small amount of money for a much larger amount in return) or if they ask you to pay them in a strange way (such as with iTunes gift cards).
If you get a strange phone call, email, or online message, you can always call your local police station to check to see if it might be a scam.
