Clearfield, Jefferson, and Elk Counties, PA – The heaviest rain has stopped after yesterday’s flood watch. However, rivers remain high, the ground is still soggy, and your basement might be wet.

If your basement flooded during the storms, consider calling a professional to help with the problem.

However, if you want to tackle the wet basement yourself, here are some tips!

Before you do anything, make sure you shut off the power around the area, including electricity and gas. Never enter a flooded area while the power is on.

Depending on how deep the water is, use a sump pump, wet vacuum, or buckets and mops to remove the water.

Set up a dehumidifier.

Wear boots, gloves, and a ventilation mask.

Move any damp items to a dry space or consider throwing them away.

Rip up carpeting and get it out of the basement as soon as possible.

Once the area is dry, spray it down with an anti-mildew spray.

If you have flood insurance, call your company to file a report.
