Ridgway, PA – A helicopter that had been assessing the damage after the severe storms in Elk County had to make an emergency landing in someone’s yard.

West Penn Power had subcontracted the helicopter to look at the storm damage, but the chopper struck a power line around 12:30 Wednesday afternoon.

The pilot was able to land safely about a quarter of a mile away, along Route 120 in a residential area near Ridgway.

No one was injured.

The FAA will be conducting an investigation of the crash.
