Brockway, PA – The Brockway school board said hello to one teacher and goodbye to another during its last meeting before school begins.
Tara Deemer was added as a Spanish teacher for the high school. However, first grade teacher Christine Worokey announced her pending retirement as of December 21. Worokey has worked for 35 years in the district.
Boardmember Robert Cherubini said she was his student teacher many years ago and he was thankful for her time in the district. He said, “She is a remarkable person. She made a huge impact on her students.”
The district also hired three assistant football coaches. Ryan Benson, Bill Edwards, and Gene Painter are replacing coaches who left after last season.
Phil Esposito and Zach Puhala will be co-soccer coaches for junior varsity.
Brockway begins the school year August 24. This will be the first year under new superintendent Jeff Vizza.
As one final piece of business, Eric Stawecki brought two students from the Germany trip to talk to the board about their experiences. The students expressed a love of travel and a hope to go to Germany again.
