DuBois, PA – Results are in for the winners of the 2018 Tour de Varacallo, an 18-mile bike race through DuBois, Sandy and Union Townships to honor an influential doctor from the area.
For the men’s overall winners, Ryan Johnson came in first at 45 minutes and 57 seconds, followed by Mike Reed and Scott Olosky.
For the women, Shelley McCune came in first at 56 minutes and 9 seconds, followed by Rebecca Arturo and Diana Wolfe.
The Tour de Varacallo is a way of remembering Dr. Albert Varacallo who died in 2010 at the age of 52 when a vehicle struck his bike.
He had been a physician in our area for many years and was known for his generosity and volunteer work.

His wife, Luanne, explains that it’s a way of keeping his spirit alive and continuing the good work that he did in the community.
Proceeds from the race will benefit the Dr. Albert Varacallo Foundation, lending assistance to those in need and providing scholarships to students who are interested in furthering their education in the health care field.
