Pennsylvania – A common blood pressure medication is being voluntarily recalled due to concerns that it might contain an ingredient that’s known to cause cancer.
The medication’s generic name is valsartan, though it’s also in brand name tablets such as Actavis and Diovan.
The recall was issued after it was discovered that the medication came into contact with a carcinogen (N-nitrosodimethylamine) at the manufacturing plant in China.
A few types of valsartan aren’t affected.
If you’re on a blood pressure medication, call your doctor or pharmacist today to find out if your medication is one of the ones affected and what other options you have if you need to take a different blood pressure drug.
