Gaskill Township, PA – A Jefferson County man had to be taken to the hospital after hitting a deer while riding his motorcycle along Route 36.

43-year-old Charles Pearce of Punxsutawney had been riding his motorcycle through Gaskill Township around 7 p.m. Tuesday when a deer ran out in front of him.

He was unable to avoid it, struck the deer, and slid across the roadway.

Pearce was taken to the Punxsutawney Area Hospital for minor injuries.

The bike had disabling damage and was pushed to Pearce’s home nearby. The deer died as a result of the crash.

Sometimes there is no way of avoiding a deer. That’s why it’s important to drive at a safe speed to give yourself as much time to react as possible, and always wear a helmet and protective gear while on a motorcycle.
