Heath Township, PA – The two people who were killed in a house fire last week in Jefferson County have been identified.

The Jefferson County Coroner, Brenda Shumaker, says 72-year-old Arlene Balmer of Sigel and 42-year-old John Kerr of Apollo died due to the fire Friday morning at a home along Route 949 in Heath Township, near Sigel.

It was around 7:30 a.m. Friday when investigators found Balmer’s body on the first floor, still in bed, while Kerr was on the second floor in what seems to be a loft area.

The official causes of death are still pending investigation.

A third person, a still unnamed 46-year-old woman, was taken to West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh via helicopter for smoke inhalation and moderate burns.

The case remains under investigation at this time, and the fire marshal expects to release more information soon.
