Punxsutawney, PA – Local animal shelters have stepped up after hundreds animals were left without a place to go after the Godot Animal Sanctuary shut down in Punxsutawney recently.
The owner and founder of the sanctuary, Lana Laughbaum, is facing felony theft charges of theft by deception for timbering on land that she didn’t own.
These charges are based on theft, and there is no proof that the animals at the sanctuary were not being taken care of. However, many of the animals originally came to the sanctuary because they have medical conditions, so it’s important that they find good homes.
Unfortunately, because of the various health conditions of the animals, some of them did have to be euthanized.
About 300 animals were left at the sanctuary, including dogs, cats, horses, cows, deer, birds, and other unusual wildlife. Currently about 25 dogs are left on the property, and workers are still feeding and caring for them.
Laughbaum also has pending illegal wildlife charges by the Pennsylvania Game Commission. A warrant is out for Laughbaum’s arrest, and her whereabouts are still unknown.
Most animals are going to Gateway Humane Society, Clarion P.A.W.S., Willow Run Sanctuary, and Just Us for the Animals, along with some going to individuals and previous owners.
