Graham Township, PA – Charges were officially filed against a Morrisdale woman who allegedly fled the scene of a fatal crash in August.

20-year-old Rhonda Maines is accused of accidentally striking and killing a man who was removing a dead deer from the roadway.

It happened on the night of Aug. 10 at the crest of a hill on Deer Creek Road in Graham Township.

When the investigation eventually led police to her vehicle, Maines reportedly told state troopers that she initially thought she hit a deer while driving, so she went home. She then said that, as the night went on, she became more certain that she had actually struck a person.

That man, 77-year-old Boyd Shirey of Morrisdale died from his injuries. Shirey was a veteran of the US Army and leaves behind a wife, three daughters, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Maines faces felony charges of accidents involving death or personal injury. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 6.
