Brockway, PA – The Brockway Chapter of National Honor Society added 18 new members but said goodbye to 17 seniors who left their mark on the school and organization.
In a ceremony Wednesday at the school, new NHS members took the NHS oath. These students were chosen from the student body based on National Honor Society’s four pillars of character, scholarship, leadership, and service.
In order to be selected, the students had to have an A average and write an essay demonstrating their character, service, and leadership. A faculty council met to choose the new inductees.
As part of the ceremony, senior members signed a Senior Register, which is a book that has the signatures of seniors from the 33 years Brockway has had a chapter. While that moment was sad for many of the seniors, they were also happy to add new members.
Joining NHS on Wednesday were Cody Kuntz, Ethan Buttery, Makenzie Overbeck, Clayton Heckman, Emma Cavalline, Sylvia Pisarchick, Dalton Hook, Anthony Glasl, Shaughnessea Richardson, Mariah Alanskas, Ian Koehler, Phillip Shifter, Kathryn Baker, Katherine McMeekin, Lainee Swanson, Chanell Britten, Salem Murray, and Justice Williams.
Senior NHS President Alan Weible talked about what NHS means to the community at Brockway.
Senior NHS Vice President Noah Vokes talked about the impact of signing his name to the Senior Register.

As we get closer to graduation, we’ll be celebrating many more of our local students who have accomplished great things throughout high school and are headed towards even better accomplishments in their future. The DuBois Area School District will be holding their annual scholarship and awards ceremony on May 15, so we’ll continue to highlight some DuBois students then.
