Bedford County, PA – Making statewide news near the Johnstown area, the District Attorney of Bedford County, Bill Higgins, has resigned after facing criminal charges.

The DA is accused of protecting drug dealers from criminal prosecution, revealing the identities of confidential informants to people who were under active investigation, and offering favorable treatment to women with whom he was having relationships.

PA Attorney General Josh Shapiro spoke about the accusations:  “District Attorney Higgins traded his power and law enforcement authority for sexual favors and violated his oath to the people of Bedford County – compromising the security of his community and the safety of confidential informants.”

Earlier Wednesday, Higgins was arraigned and waived his preliminary hearing for 31 counts of misconduct in office.
