DuBois, PA – The first elder cottage in Pennsylvania will be built in Sandy Township.
The township supervisors approved the conditional use permit on Monday, which will allow Kimberly Robertson’s father to rent a small moveable home in her backyard for 30 percent of his income. When he no longer lives there, the elder cottage will be moved to another property.
It’s part of a program started by Mature Resources, a subsidiary of the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging.
Although discussion about elder cottages has been going on since last year, the Sandy Township Supervisors took their time in approving the rentals.
Since this would be the first elder cottage in the entire state, they wanted to make sure the legal issues were handled correctly.
