DuBois, PA – Thanks to everyone who helped donate to our Food for Fun campaign, the shelves at the DuBois Salvation Army food pantry are stocked again!

Nearly 700 items were donated, which will help feed the average of 40 families that the pantry serves each month.

Check out the personal “thank you” message from Lieutenant Candance Horsman, who is charge of DuBois Salvation Army.

Thank you from The Salvation Army Worship & Service Center DuBois, Pennsylvania for all of the wonderful donations from Food for Fun!

Lieutenant Horsman says the people they help come from all walks of life.

Thank you to everyone who donated! We’ll be pairing up again with the Salvation Army in just a few months to help provide backpacks and school supplies for local kids.

Still want to make a food donation? The pantry can always use your help! You can drop off a donation during normal business hours at their location at 119 S. Jared St., DuBois.

Lieutenant Horsman gives some ideas for what kinds of donations are most helpful. Shelf stable milk is always a good choice, along with things like peanut butter, mac and cheese, pasta, spaghetti sauce, canned meat, soup, canned fruit, cereal, and oatmeal.

The food pantry will take any non-perishable food item that is not expired and is in good condition.

They are also looking for some frozen meats and refrigerated dairy products. The Salvation Army can especially also use hygiene products for both men and women, especially travel size toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, and other needs.

According to the food pantry distribution guidelines:

A family of one to two people should receive a monthly donation of two dairy products, three breads/grains, two vegetables, two fruits, and two meats.

A family of three to four people should receive a monthly donation of three dairy products, four breads/grains, four vegetables, three fruits, and four meats.

A family of five to six people should also receive a monthly donation of three dairy products, four breads/grains, four vegetables, three fruits, and four meats.

However, because the food pantry serves about 60 families per month, sometimes the amount of food on the shelves can quickly dwindle down without the important donations from people like you!
