Brookville, PA – Brookville Council is prepared to make an offer to an internal candidate to become the borough’s next police chief.

Following an executive session last night, council made the decision to hire from within the police department, rather than open the job to external candidates.

The person hired will replace Chief Jason Brown who is leaving in 10 days for a safety and security position in the Florida Keys.

In his final council meeting, Brown commended officers Mick Stormer, Sam Bartley and Mark Humes for their recent quick response in rescuing a man that fell into Sandy Lick Creek.

In other business, Code Enforcement Officer Donald Jonischek plans to inspect two blighted buildings in the borough, under the recommendation of former councilman Roy Darrin. The buildings include a former Methodist church on Church St. near Northside Elementary School, and the former public library building on West Main. The rear portions of both are allegedly on the verge of collapse.
