DuBois, PA – A man who was instrumental in the development of our Penn Highlands emergency room (back when it was DuBois Hospital) has passed away.
Dr. Daniel Gordon was 76.
In the photo shown, Dr. Gordon was the recipient of the 2009 Jaycees Distinguished Service Award for his work in the community.
His funeral service will be a private celebration of life with his family.
His family suggest that, if you would like to honor his memory, to make a donation to one of the many organizations he was involved in, such as healthcare or the Reynoldsville Historical Society.
Dr. Daniel S. Gordon, 76, passed away on January 31, 2018, at his home.
Doc was born on August 4, 1941, in DuBois, PA. He was the son of the late Charles Gordon and the late Ellen (Vandivort) Gordon.
On June 29, 1963, he married his high school sweet heart Pat (Fusco) Gordon. She survives.
He was a graduate of Reynoldsville High School class of 1959. He then attended and graduated from Lock Haven University, followed by enrollment and graduation from the University of Pittsburgh (D.T. Watson School of Physical Therapy).
He practiced physical therapy in Lancaster, PA for three years, before entering medical school at PCOM in Philadelphia, PA.
Doc returned to his home town upon completion of his medical studies and was instrumental in the development of the emergency room at DuBois Hospital. After many years as director of emergency medicine, he finished his career in Reynoldsville, PA as a family physician.
He received many distinguished awards in his lifetime and served on numerous commuinty associations in Reynoldsville, DuBois and the surrounding area.
For thirty seven years, from 1974 to 2011, he enjoyed his role as team physician for the DAHS football team.
He is survived by his children J.C. (Stephanie) Gordon and Gretchen (Bob) Javens, grandchildren Emily (Kody) Barrett, Daniel P. Gordon, Matthew Gordon, Darik O’Neil, and Danielle O’Neil, great-grandchildren Colton Yohe and Emma Barrett, and brother Joe (Nancy) Gordon of DuBois, PA.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Judith (Gordon) Philp and infant son Daniel Gordon.
In accordance to Doc’s request there will be no public visitation. A private family celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Bernard P. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc, Reynoldsville, PA.
