Sigel, PA – Although their home was destroyed, a Jefferson County family escaped a fire without injuries late Thursday morning.

By 11 a.m., the home along Route 949 near Sigel was completely engulfed in flames.

The homeowners, who are still unnamed at this time, were inside when it started but were able to escape safely.

At least nine fire companies responded to the fire, which was difficult to extinguish because of the strong winds.

The cause is still under investigation, but officials believe it may have started by an outdoor wood burner at the back of the garage.

The homeowners are planning on staying with family members who live nearby.
