Clarion County, PA – A New Jersey couple were arrested in Clarion County after police found their three children travelling in the back of their box truck in below freezing temperatures.
On Jan. 1, a concerned citizen told police that 40-year-old Jose Padillo and 39-year-old Ramona Padillo were seen placing their girls into the back of the enclosed truck.
Police found the truck on Interstate 80 near Clarion. The three girls – who are 8, 10, and 12 – were sitting the back of the box truck on a couch. A
lthough they were wearing coats and covered with a blanket, there was no heat source and it was 10 degrees at the time.
There is also no way to safely secure the children while riding in the back of the truck. The furniture and power tools were not secured either, which would have been incredibly dangerous for the girls if the truck had crashed or stopped too quickly.
Both Jose and Ramona Padillo are facing multiple charges, including endangering the welfare of children. They are both lodged in the Jefferson County Jail are failing to post $10,000 cash bail each.
Their preliminary hearings are scheduled for Jan. 9.
The children were taken into protective custody.
