Bradford Township, PA – Some Clearfield County residents spent Christmas in the dark after a PennDOT plow truck tore down power lines near Woodland.

77-year-old James Boron of Morrisdale was driving the plow truck around 8:30 yesterday morning along Shiloh Road.

Boron had raised the truck’s bed to prepare to lay down anti-skid material on the road. However, he didn’t lower the bed before driving underneath several utility lines and cables.

The lines were caught and pulled down, knocking out power to about 40 homes in the area.

Police visited most of the homes to do welfare checks because they were concerned some of the elderly residents would get too cold without electric heat.

Power was restored later that day.

The driver was not injured, but his seat belt trapped him inside of the truck, so crews had to cut him out.
