DuBois, PA – The man accused of striking and killing a woman while she was doing yard work in DuBois in 2015 will have a mental health evaluation before his trial.

In August of 2015, the now 32-year-old Joshua Nelson allegedly stole a Marine Corps recruiter’s government vehicle, then struck and killed 61-year-old Betsy Andryka as she ran her lawnmower at her house on Brown Street. He reportedly also assaulted two women at a nearby home.

Nelson is charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault, burglary, resisting arrest, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, driving with a suspended license, reckless driving and criminal attempt.

The defense attorney asked for the mental health evaluation and says they intend to argue at trial that Nelson has “diminished capacity” for making good decisions. The evaluation should not delay the trial, and it’s still scheduled for Jan. 29 through Feb. 2 in Clearfield County Court.
