Brookville, PA – We’re getting more information about the multi-vehicle pile-up that closed down westbound Interstate 80 around 6:20 Thursday evening near Brookville.

26-year-old Craig Pyne of DuBois was driving his SUV in the left lane when he swerved and struck a freightliner driven by 60-year-old Michael Pierson of Muncie, Indiana. There were no injuries, but the SUV was towed from the crash. Pyne was charged with driving while his license was suspended or revoked.

Just a few minutes later in the same area, another vehicle was driving too fast for snowy conditions and rear-ended another truck that was stopped for the pile-up. The 42-year-old driver, Willie Gibson from Maple Heights, Ohio, was cited for driving at unsafe speeds.

Gibson and his passengers, 44-year-old Conica Hardy and an unnamed 17-year-old girl, both from Maple Heights as well, were not injured. The truck driver, 23-year-old Yuriy Havrylyuk from Chicago, was not injured either.

The westbound lane on I-80 was shut down for hours on Thursday after the pile-up. Traffic was backed up from Brookville to nearly Falls Creek. Several people were taken to the hospital, but no details are available on those particular crashes.
